Serralles aiming for second win of the year at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

MONTEREY, CA (September 10, 2015) – Reigning series champions Belardi Auto Racing will take their Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tire driving duo to the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this coming weekend (September 11-12) for the final race on the 2015 calendar. Series race winner Felix Serralles currently sits sixth in the overall points thanks in no small part to his impressive victory on the Milwaukee Mile in July, and the Puerto Rican’s quick pace at the most recent road course round at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will make him a certain contender for race wins at the Laguna Seca doubleheader. Columbia’s Juan Piedrahita has enjoyed some stellar drives this season, but luck has not come his way over the past two events. The Indy Lights program has not competed at Mazda Raceway in many years, and never with the new Dallara IL-15, so the level playing should open the door for both Belardi pilots to shine.

“I think everyone is pretty pumped about running the Indy Lights finale at Mazda Raceway, as the company is such a part of the entire ladder system,” commented Brian Belardi, Team Principal. “I know that our drivers are ready to experience the track, and of course, the Corkscrew, but I think we’re all motivated by the fact that it’s a clean slate in terms of competition experience, so the weekend will be wide open. Our guys may not be in the title chase this year, but they’re going to be going for more race wins for the team resume.”

Serralles’ win on the tough Milwaukee Mile pushed him to fifth in the championship standings, but a rough run at Mid-Ohio that included a freak mechanical anomaly has dropped him to sixth overall. The series freshman is extremely optimistic considering the fact that no one has any additional experience in the series car at this venue, and he is excited to tackle the beautiful 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course in central California. At the very least, Piedrahita has run on the circuit before in the Pro Mazda Championship back in 2012, so he will have some experience to draw upon.

Belardi’s Indy Lights drivers will turn their first laps historic road course on Thursday, September 10 during a pair of 20-minute test sessions (10:40 am and 3:50 pm PST). On Friday, September 11, they’ll get even more open track time with two official 30-minute practice periods (10:15 am and 3:45 pm PST). Serralles and Piedrahita will qualify on Saturday morning at 8:45 am, ahead of their first race of the weekend at 3:45 pm later that afternoon. Sunday’s time slot is a feature race at 2:40 pm. Live timing and live streaming video of the races will be available on the series website ( and on the Road to Indy app, which is available free for iPhones and Android devices through iTunes or Google Play.
